1. You can define the exact dimensions of the bounding box for a paragraph type:
With the text tool selected, hold down Alt (PC) or Option (Mac) and drag slightly with your mouse.
Release the mouse & keys and Photoshop will prompt you to enter the exact width and height of the paragraph text box. You can use any unit (e.g. 12 pt or 12 cm; Photoshop will convert it to the default type unit, set in the application's preferences).
2. Here's how to convert between Point type and Paragraph type:
i. select the type layer and choose:
Layer > Type > Convert to Paragraph Text
Layer > Type > Convert to Point Text
ii. Right click on the type layer and select Convert to Paragraph Text or Convert to Point Text
3. While using the Check Spelling or the Find and Replace text commands make sure the type layers are not locked or hidden, otherwise these commands will ignore these layers.
4. You can use an alternate unit of measurement for type size (e.g. centimeters or inches instead of points) merely by entering the respective unit after the font size value (e.g. you can enter 5 cm or 5 in). Photoshop will then convert it to the default type unit.
5. You can apply an underline even to a vertical type: select the vertical type layer, go to the character panel and choose Underline Left or Underline Right from the panel menu.
6. Press Alt + Left/Right arrow (Win) or Option + Left/Right arrow (Mac) to adjust Kerning / Tracking (that is: the space between pairs of characters or the characters in selected text, respectively).
7. Press Alt + Up/Down arrow (Win) or Option + Up/Down arrow (Mac) to adjust the amount of Leading (that is: the space between the lines in selected text).
8. You can precisely control word and letter spacing in an entire paragraph by choosing Justification from the Paragraph panel menu.
Note: Word spacing values can range from 0% to 1000%. At 100% Photoshop adds no extra space between words.
Letter spacing values range from 100% to 500%. At 0% Photoshop adds no space between letters while at 100% Photoshop adds an entire space width between characters.
9. To precisely control hyphenation first choose a language from the Language dropdown list in the Character panel. Then choose Hyphenation from the Paragraph panel menu. To prevent specific words from breaking (e.g. last names) select the characters with your mouse and choose "No break" from the Character panel menu.
