PHOTOSHOP ACTIONS .... WHAT ARE THEY?
Actions are small files that contain recorded series of Photoshop commands. These files are executed from within Photoshop / PSE. Actions can be relatively simple (when they are used to automate certain parts of your workflow). Moreover, they can be very complex and powerful, and they can create wonders on your screen, like many of the actions you will download from PanosFX.com.

Actions are created in Photoshop using a special panel called the actions panel. The actions panel is missing in PSE. Therefore you can't create an action in PSE. The good news is that you can install and play Photoshop actions in PSE.
DO ALL PHOTOSHOP ACTIONS RUN IN PS ELEMENTS?
The answer is no, for a number of reasons. First: certain Photoshop commands are not available in PSE. The developer of a PSE action should be aware of all restrictions and should know how to implement the necessary workarounds to bypass these issues. Second: the PSE actions developer must create and distribute not only the action files but also the PNG thumbnails and the special .xml files. So, before you download any actions over the internet you should check whether it is clearly stated that they work in PSE, if you want to avoid any frustrations.
DO THE PANOSFX ACTIONS RUN IN PS ELEMENTS?
The great news is that we are among the (few) developers who constantly support PSE. The vast majority of PanosFX actions come into 2 versions, written for Photoshop and PSE respectively. Please check the "Requirements" tab on each action page to find out if the particular action is compatible with your PSE version. Very old PSE versions are not supported.
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO IN ORDER TO INSTALL AN ACTION IN PSE?
In PS Elements you need to have 3 files to install an action:
- the action file (filename.atn) which contains the recorded Photoshop commands,
- the PNG image (filename.png) which shows up as the action thumbnail on the Photo Effects panel, and
- the XML file (filename.xml) which is used to categorize the action under a specific group (similarly to Photoshop's actions set).
