While preparing a tutorial that explains the fundamentals of timeline animation in Photoshop, I created this example of a total solar eclipse. Everything has been created from scratch in Photoshop:
(Note: Click the gear icon and set the resolution to 720p.)

Use the File > Place command to add one or more photos.
The photos will be added as smart objects in the layers panel (unless you changed the default PS behavior).
In addition, each photo will be added in the timeline, as an individual track.

Now use your mouse to change the duration of each layer and also move it along the track, in order to specify when exactly this layer appears:

Here's a re-worked version of the total eclipse, where I added the (animated) solar prominences.

Brief instructions for the prominences:
I created a new layer (Prominence-1). I created a circular selection, 2 times larger than the sun; I pressed D and applied the Clouds command. I set the layer to "Screen" blending mode and applied the Radial blur command, to create the prominence rays.
I duplicated the layer (Prominence-2) and turned both layers to smart objects.
Finally, I animated the first layer using the "Transform" property, making it rotate clockwise; I animated the second layer, making it rotate counter clockwise. The result is quite impressive.

Here's the video:
